PIONEER BUSINESSES: "Gonzalez Cafe" appears on ADELANTE MURAL. The cafe was located onWallace Street to serve neighbors and workers on Union Pacific, Northwestern Steel & Wire, as well as National and Lawrence Brothers factories. If you have information about other pioneer Latino Businesses, please email me at mvillanu@astound.net Lupita's Tortillas was the first food manufacturing business business, known all over the region for delicious flour tortillas with homemade flavor. LA TIERRA IMPORTS was the first Latino business to open in Sterling's Northland Mall, but the consumer slowdown after Northwestern Steel & Wire closed meant that this beautiful import shop is now only a memory. Select LA TIERRA goods are still sold at special events such -- so look for Gonzalez and Sandoval T-shirts, flags and souvenirs at the next big community event !!
